Monday — Foundation Day
What if the most powerful thing happening in your city right now isn't in a boardroom, a courtroom, or a news headline — but in someone's living room?
Today's Scripture: "So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him." — Acts 12:5
Reflection:
Acts 12 opens with a grim scene. James has been executed. Peter is in chains, surrounded by four squads of soldiers. From the outside, it looked like the opposition was winning — like maybe this whole movement didn't have the staying power anyone hoped for.
But while Herod was making plans in the palace, heaven was already moving in response to a prayer meeting in someone's living room.
The word earnestly in this verse is the same Greek word used to describe Jesus praying in the garden — so intensely that his sweat became like drops of blood. This wasn't a casual prayer chain or a quick "I'm praying for you" text. This was a church on its knees, pressing into God with everything they had.
And God answered. An angel walked into a locked cell, chains fell off Peter's wrists, and iron gates swung open on their own.
Here's the foundational truth this week: prayer is not your last option. Prayer is heaven's invitation for God's power to work on earth. We often treat prayer like a backup plan — something we try when everything else fails. But Acts 12 shows us that prayer isn't the last thing the church did. It was the only thing — and it was enough.
Today's Application: Take two minutes today to identify one situation in your life where you've been relying on your own plans first. Bring it to God in prayer — not as a last resort, but as your first response.
A Closing Thought: The same God who sent an angel into a locked cell is listening to you right now. Heaven is already moving — sometimes we just can't see it yet.
