Challenge Day

Tuesday — Challenge Day

Have you ever prayed for something so long that somewhere along the way, you stopped actually believing it would happen?

Today's Scripture: "When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, 'Peter is at the door!' 'You are out of your mind,' they told her." — Acts 12:14-15

Reflection:
Here's one of the most honest, human moments in all of Scripture. The church had been earnestly praying for Peter's release — and when Peter showed up at the door, they told the girl who announced it that she was out of her mind.

They prayed for the miracle. They just didn't expect it to actually come.
It's easy to look at this story and smile at their lack of faith. But if we're being honest, most of us have been exactly like that servant girl — overjoyed at what God is doing, but surrounded by people (maybe even ourselves) who have quietly adjusted their expectations downward.

Long seasons of unanswered prayer do something to us. We don't usually make a conscious decision to stop believing. It happens gradually. We start praying in a way that covers our bases rather than a way that actually expects God to move. The words are still there, but the expectation quietly slips out the back door.

This isn't a reason for shame — it's a reason for honesty. The disciples praying in that living room weren't spiritual superheroes. They were ordinary people who kept showing up even when they weren't sure it was working. And God moved anyway.

Today's Application: Ask yourself honestly: What have I stopped expecting? Name it — in your journal, in a prayer, or simply in the quiet of your own heart. Bring that drifted expectation back to God today.

A Closing Thought: God isn't surprised by your doubt. He met Peter's friends in the middle of their unbelief, and He'll meet you in yours too.
