Have you ever been doing something you believed God called you to, only to hit a wall of resistance and wonder if you heard him wrong?
Today's Scripture: "Now it happened in Iconium that they went together to the synagogue of the Jews, and so spoke that a great multitude both of Jews and Greeks believed. But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brethren." — Acts 14:1–2
Reflection: Notice what happens in these two verses. A genuine move of God — people coming to faith, lives being changed — is followed immediately by opposition and poisoned minds. Revival and resistance, side by side, in the same breath.
We've quietly absorbed a different story. We've come to believe that if things are going well, if the atmosphere is good and the numbers are up, then we must be in God's will. And if there's conflict, opposition, or resistance, we must have gotten ahead of him.
But Acts 14 tells a different story entirely. Everywhere Paul and Barnabas went, the gospel brought a decision — and that decision stirred up opposition. Every single time. Not because they were failing, but because they were advancing into territory the enemy didn't want them in.
The enemy doesn't mobilize resistance against things that aren't a threat. He doesn't waste his resources on a church that isn't moving.
Following Jesus was never meant to be the easy road. It has always been the faithful road. There is a real difference between those two things. The easy road is about your comfort. The faithful road is about the kingdom.
Today's Application: Think of one area of your life where you've faced unexpected resistance. Ask God today whether that resistance might actually be a sign that you're moving in the right direction.
A Closing Thought: Don't measure God's presence by your comfort. Measure it by your faithfulness. He is with you — especially on the hard road.
